TSIAME – The Maluti-A-Phofung Special Economic Zone (MAPSEZ) is poised for a major transformation with the entry of four new investors bringing fresh opportunities for growth in Tsiame and across the Thabo Mofutsanyana District.
MAPSEZ CEO Mpho Mgemane welcomed the investors on February 28, emphasizing the zone’s role as a catalyst for regional development.
“We have a solid plan and a strong foundation to turn our vision for economic growth into reality. This is a space where industries can thrive, businesses can expand, and communities can benefit through job creation. We are committed to building an environment that attracts investment and fosters long-term sustainability,” he said.
Among the new investors is Ndalo Makhaye. His company, NNT Investments, along with partner Rabbit Abbitor, will launch a state-of-the-art rabbit processing facility expected to boost local farming, create jobs, and position Thabo Mofutsanyana as a leader in alternative protein production.
“This initiative is not just about rabbit farming, it’s about economic transformation. We are taking action to build a thriving industry, and we invite partners, stakeholders, and government leaders to join us in making this vision a reality,” Makhaye added.
In the agricultural sector, lifelong friends Sandile Khoza and Graham Leslie are joining forces to expand apple farming in the region. Clan Leslie Estate, a family-run farm known for its high-quality apple production, is partnering with Walk of Life and Heineken Beverages to scale up operations. During a recent sod-turning ceremony for a modern apple packing house, Leslie explained,
“We have had a small factory running here for some time, but we recognized the need to expand. By joining forces with Sandile, we can increase our orchards, create more jobs, and ensure that this venture becomes not just sustainable but highly profitable. This partnership allows us to push forward and build something truly impactful for the region.”

The project, valued at 370 million, is expected to create nearly 500 seasonal jobs and significantly boost the Free State’s agricultural economy.
Meanwhile, Noxolo Nkabinde is set to shake up the food-processing industry with Rovno Sauce, a brand built on the belief that “food is not just taste, it’s trust.” Developed in her home kitchen, Nkabinde’s sauce has already won over local palates with its rich, bold flavors.
“This sauce was created with love, and every ingredient reflects my commitment to quality and authenticity. It’s more than just a product—it’s a story of trust and tradition, made with the finest locally sourced ingredients,” she said.
Ketso Makume, MEC for the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs and Finance, reiterated MAPSEZ’s importance as a key economic asset for the Free State.
“MAPSEZ belongs to this province, and no other region can lay claim to it. This is a strategic economic asset, and we must ensure that it benefits the people of the Free State,” he stated. Makume also urged the Free State Development Corporation to streamline decision-making processes. “FDC must allow the CEO to approve critical documents without bureaucratic delays. Efficiency is essential in securing and growing investment.”
With the infusion of innovative ideas and new capital, MAPSEZ is fast emerging as a hub for industrial and agricultural growth. “The Free State is open for business, and we welcome more investors to be part of this exciting transformation,” Mgemane concluded.
