Mafu hands over gym to Maluti-a-Phofung

QWAQWA – The founder of Makwane-based Proteas netball team Matshediso Ramotshediso, has described the new sport kits provided to the team and others by the national department of sport kits as a pleasant surprise.

Ramatshediso said the gift of netball kits will go a long way in turning around the fortunes of her team.
“This gift is going to uplift the morale of our team. They will have proper netballs to use in training, so I cannot thank government enough for the good gesture,” she said at the official handover on Tuesday this week.

During the event, deputy minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Nocawe Noncedo Mafu handed over a community outdoor gym to the executive mayor Maluti-a-Phofung local municipality Masetjhaba Lakaje Mosia at the event held at Namahadi.

“I am gratified by the fact that the community has already started utilizing this facility. It shows you do appreciate it. To community members, please use this gym to improve your health conditions, with exercise, illnesses like high blood pressure improves and keep the doctor away.
“May I appeal to the Mayor and the Municipality leadership that the facility is maintained so that it can last longer.”
Mafu said the gesture is in line with sport, arts and culture minister Zizi Kodwa’s declaration of royal palaces as heritage sites.

“The minister was motivated by the belief that heritage is of utmost importance to our society and should be highly valued and protected. Heritage encompasses the tangible and intangible aspects of our cultural identity, including historic sites, monuments, artifacts, traditions, languages, and customs passed down through generations,” she said.

The principal chief of Bakoena, Morena Moremoholo Mopeli who provided the land for the gym encouraged community members to eat organic food.
“A gym alone is not enough for your good health. You must plant your own crops and eat them while still fresh.”
For her part, the executive mayor pleaded with the community members to take good care of the facility and guard it.

“This gym belongs to the community, and it is your responsibility to make sure it is not vandalized. We will assist with the fencing of the place.”
Free State sport, arts and culture Limakatso Mahasa officiated the proceedings.
At same event some local soccer teams and netball received sporting kits.
