Speaker: Councillors are custodians of development

QWAQWA – The speaker of Maluti-a-Phofung (MAP) local municipality says ward community members are custodians of development in their respective wards.
Speaking during a series of ward committee workshops in Qwaqwa and Intabazwe in December 2023, Councillor Mandlankosi Dlamini pointed out that all MAP residents, including ward committee members and councillors, must pay for municipal services.

Dlamini said it is a collective responsibility to ensure that municipality has enough money to provide quality services, and that this can only be done if all ratepayers, pay their dues.

“Ward committee members are the custodians of development in communities, and your role is to ensure there is efficient and effective ways of assisting ward councillors to deliver on their mandate.

“One of the aims of these workshops is to empower the elected ward committee members with information to support the municipality in delivering quality services to the communities in their respective wards,” Dlamini said.

The first workshop of ward committee members started with wards 17, 18, 23, 24, 26, 30, 31, 32 and 35 represented.
The next day saw the speaker and his team continue with ward committees in the Bolata Zone (Wards 12,13,15 and 25) and in the Tsheseng Zone (Wards 15 and 16).

The speaker concluded his workshops in Intabazwe where ward committees from wards 1,3,4,5,6 and 22 were in attendance.
