QWAQWA – The family of murdered Sello Morobe who could not be buried because his head was missing, sighed with relief after his head was recovered by police, and said funeral preparations have begun.
Family spokesperson Mmatseleng Morobe said they are pleased with the police efforts in ensuring that Sello’s missing parts are found.
“We appreciate the work of the police, and we can finally start our healing process after his missing head was found by police. Funeral arrangements will follow soon,” Morobe said.
Morobe’s corpse has been in the government mortuary for more than a month and his family refused to bury him with the head missing.
He was last seen at a local tavern drinking with his friends before he disappeared in what was suspected to be an abduction.
But police last Saturday retrieved Morobe’s missing head at Namahali river, not far from where his dismembered body, which was burnt beyond recognition was found.
Thabo Mofutsanyana police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Mmako Mophiring, said after an intensive search and investigation into Morobe’s death, his missing head was found.
“Phuthaditjhaba Public Order Police Unit, Police Cult Investigating Unit, Tactical Response Team and Namahadi Police, together with Phuthaditjhaba Rescue and Diving Unit and Maluti-A-Phofung municipality Fire and Rescue, retrieved the missing head of the late young man whose body was burnt beyond recognition a month ago,” Mophiring said.
Two suspects Thabiso Mosala (18) and Thandaza Radebe (28) have been arrested in connection with the disappearance and brutal murder of Morobe of Ha Rankopane Village on June 7,2023. The pair have already appeared in court and remained in custody after their second court appearance on 3 August 2023 when their case was postponed for further investigation.
Their arrests were made after one of the accused confessed to the police and took them where they had dumped Morobe’s head in Namahali river.
