QWAQWA – Qwaqwa-born Thabo Lamola, who is currently residing in Bloemfontein, has extended a helping hand by donating sanitary pads to executive mayor Gilbert Mokotso for distribution to schools of his choice.
After handing over the sanitary pads to Mokotso during a council sitting break, Lamola said charity begins at home, hence he decided to take his donation to the area which made him what he is today.
“I was born at Makwane Honeyvilla. I am doing this to raise awareness among men on women and children abuse, and that as men we must play a meaningful role in our community.
“We want these pads to be distributed in schools because research has revealed that many girls skip school during their menstruation period due to poverty and inability to purchase sanitary pads. We are doing this to meet them halfway.”
Lamola also promised to bring more projects to Qwaqwa in a bid to develop the community and foster a positive mentality.
He said he handed over 100 packets of sanitary pads to the mayor because he is a leader of the community and he will be able identify schools that need them most.
In response, Mokotso thanked Lamola for his kind gesture and expressed a wish that other people who hail from this area could follow suit and invest in the leaders of tomorrow.
“This is a very big gesture that will go a long way towards changing our poor girls’ lives. They will now have their dignity back and be able to attend school regardless of their family background. I would like to thank you for this good deed.”
