HARRISMITH-A-36-year old man from Estcourt in KwaZulu- Natal who appeared briefly before Harrismith magistrate court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Tuesday , was released on bail of R1000.
Vincent Mayaba is expected to be back in court on April 8, 2022.
According to police report ,Mayaba was travelling on a taxi from Kwazulu-Natal on Monday March 1, when he was arrested at the road block at N3 conducted by police during their crime prevention campaign.
“On February 28, 2022, at around 10:20 the rapid rail police unit deployed at Harrsimith conducted a stop and search on N3 at Emoyeni with the aim of addressing various crime depended on police actions. Apparently , they stopped a minibus taxi with GP registration number on the north bound headed on Gauteng province .Whilst busy searching the passengers , they came across the certain passenger from Estcourt who was in possession of a Norinco 9mm firearm pistol with serial number visible and one magazine with five bullets,” police disclosed.
Mophiring said, Mayaba failed to produce a license to possess such a firearm and was arrested while firearm was sized as exhibit and for further ballistic analysis.
