QWAQWA –  ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa is promising to end corruption and poor service delivery through deployment of appropriately skilled councillors.

Ramaphosa said this when addressing residents of the Maluti-a-Phofung towns of Intabazwe and Phuthaditjhaba this past Sunday.

He pointed out that the ANC is determined to deal with any corrupt leaders within its local municipalities and the entire ANC structures.

“We want leaders that have the right skills in order to serve the community, leaders who have innovative ideas on how to solve problems. Not leaders who are there to enrich themselves and their friends and families,” he said.

President Ramaphosa disclosed that the ruling party is trying its best to rectify all the wrongs that have been committed by corrupt members, and went on to apologize to the crowd which in turn responded with chants of ‘we forgive you’.

Leading election campaign in Maluti-a-Phofung ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“The people of MAP must have faith in the ANC by casting their vote on November 1, because the ANC is busy fixing its local municipalities and wants skilled candidates who have been chosen by the people to be ANC councillors,” Ramaphosa said.

The ANC President was accompanied by Free State Premier Sefora Ntombela, the mayor of MAP local municipality Masetjhaba Lakaje Mosia and other ANC leaders as he addressed the residents of various communities inside MAP.

For her part, Ntombela urged the exuberant crowd gathered at the Riverside sports ground to take their voices to the polls, and encouraged registered voters to go and vote for the ANC on November 1, so the party can fulfil its promises to the people of MAP.

In response, those who attended the election rally expressed their frustration at Sassa’s slow pace of processing and disbursing R350 unemployment grants and Covid-19 relief funds. MAP has a high level of poverty and unemployment and many residents of this rural community have applied for the Covid-19 unemployment relief grant.
