QWAQWA –South Africa Security Agency (SASSA ) based at Botshabelo in the Free State, Nkululeko Matiya has handed himself to police on Tuesday May 26, 2021, amid investigation by police on alleged fraud at SASSA.
This arrest of the official is part of phase two which the South African Police Services (SAPS) has embarked on as the first phase was conducted previously and 33 SASSA beneficiaries (clients) were arrested and charged with fraud.
According to Free State SASSA spokesperson Motshewa Maleka this fraudulent activity targeted vulnerable people in the community under false pretence of assisting them to obtain social grants in particular the disability grant.
Working in cahoots with Malefu Mokhethi, a member of public, who was arrested and is in prison, applicants would be issued with the false referral letters succeeding them to apply through the said SASSA official to qualify them for the Disability Grant.
Matiya is in police custody after appearing briefly in Botshabelo court on Thursday 27 May 2021 and his bail application was postponed to Wednesday, 2nd June 2021.
SASSA is serious about catching these fraudsters who take government funds for their own selfish reasons which is intended to assist our vulnerable people to curb poverty in our communities.
