QWAQWA – The days of walking long distances just to access internet services are over for leaners of Thalabodiba Senior Secondary School in rural Eastern Free State, thanks to Invest Solar and BEE partner Mshiswa which donated a fully equipped solar powered computer lab to the school.

The state-of-the-art computer lab comes with many benefits aimed at equalising learning opportunities and fostering digital skills.

Thalabodiba learners say they will no longer run the risk of being left behind when their urban counterparts switch to digital technology.

“With access to internet, we will be now able to do our research and improve our marks. The lab has come at the right time when we are in our final year; we will not wait until we get to tertiary level to start using computers. We thank our donors for bringing such resources to our doorstep thereby enabling us to have equal opportunities to learners in towns,” said a Thalabodiba matric learner.

Another learner said it is the first time some of them will be using a computer, adding that without access of information it is very difficult to make informed decisions and being at par with the rest of the world.

Bongani Tshabalala enthused that the computer lap came at the right time, and the skills they will acquire will definitely stand them in good stead when they get to college.

“This is a game changer; it will go a long way towards improving our learners’ results, especially in this age of technology.”

In appreciation, Principal Chief, Morena Moremoholo Mopeli urged the community and the recipients of the gift to treasure and protect it against thieves.

“We appreciate this gesture and hope it extends to other schools here. We plead with our community to guard and protect these computers so they can benefit the next generations.”
