QWAQWA – A 42-year old Slovo Park man is behind bars after allegedly walking into a police station and confessing to the brutal killing of his 38-year old girlfriend, in a chilling case that has once again exposed the deadly consequences of domestic violence.

Police say the suspect handed himself over on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, admitting he had killed the woman two days earlier.

Officers immediately followed up on the confession, proceeding to the suspect’s residence in Phuthaditjhaba, where they made a grim discovery — the lifeless body of the woman inside the house.

She had suffered multiple facial injuries and was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Early investigations point to a volatile domestic dispute, with allegations of infidelity believed to have sparked a heated argument that spiralled into fatal violence.

The suspect was arrested on the spot and remains in custody. He is expected to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 8 April, facing a charge of murder.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring confirmed the incident, adding that investigations are continuing.

The case has sent shockwaves through the Qwaqwa community, underscoring the persistent scourge of gender-based violence.

The South African Police Service has renewed its call for communities to break the silence around domestic abuse, urging victims and witnesses to seek help and report violence before it turns deadly.

  1. Being a woman in South Africa is really hard. The perpetrator must rot in jail. Not all men are like him.
