QWAQWA – MAP16 councillor Gilbert Mokotso has resigned with immediate effect, triggering questions over how his exit was handled.

Party convenor Paratlane Motloung confirmed the resignation, saying Mokotso submitted a letter dated 25 February to council speaker Mandlenkosi Dlamini during the 26 February sitting.

Motloung said the party only received the letter on 10 March – a delay he described as irregular.

β€œIt is odd the letter reached the party this late. He was expected to submit it internally before sending it to the speaker,” he said.

Mokotso remains a MAP16 member despite stepping down. His resignation takes effect on 25 March, with Mathabo Mosia set to fill the vacant council seat.

Mokotso was unavailable for comment.
