KESTELL – With schools closed for the festive season, many children in Maluti-a-Phofung (MAP) often find themselves with little to keep them occupied.
As a result, Moses Moloi, the founder of Kgolokweng Sports and Events BMW NPO, organized a 30-kilometre cycling challenge to engage young people in a positive and active pursuit.
On December 7, Moloi led a group of young cyclists from Kestell on a route stretching 15 kilometres to Africa’s Kop and back.
Among the participants was nine-year-old Bohlale Moloi, whose determination and enthusiasm became a source of inspiration for the entire group.
“During the holidays, many kids wander the streets with nothing to do, which exposes them to dangerous influences like drugs. I noticed several children in our area own bicycles, so I decided to form a cycling team. This not only keeps them active but also introduces them to cycling as a sport, promoting health and discipline.”
Despite his age, Bohlale impressed the group with his resilience and positive attitude, as he reflected on the experience.“The distance was tough, but riding with the other kids made it fun. We rested when we needed to, and I was proud to keep up. It was exciting and showed me that I can push myself further than I thought.”
Thabiso Mosia, another participant, praised Bohlale’s determination. “Seeing Bohlale give it his all encouraged the rest of us to keep going, even when it got challenging,” he said. “This wasn’t just a ride; it was an experience that showed us cycling can be more than just fun—it can be a real sport with opportunities for the future.”

Moloi hopes to inspire more children in the Kestell community to join his cycling team. “This is about more than just riding bikes,” he emphasized.
“It’s about giving kids something meaningful to do, helping them see cycling as a sport that improves their health, builds confidence, and keeps them out of harm’s way.”
With young leaders like Bohlale paving the way, Moloi’s vision for a thriving community of cyclists in Kestell is steadily gaining momentum.
