QWAQWA – The Tseki magistrate’s court in QwaQwa released three mob justice accused on free bail on March 12, 2024 and they are expected back in court on March 30, 2024.

The three suspects Qenemosi Mphuti (44), Fanyane Mphuti (26) and Simangaliso Khumalo (22), were arrested by police in connection with the murder of 58-year old labour unionist and former police officer Dikotsi Jonas Thateng.

The trio suspects are part of a mob that murdered Thateng, famously known as DJ, in retribution for fatally shooting two women in Leribe village on Saturday March 2, 2024.

According to Police spokesperson in Thabo Mofutsanyana district, Thateng allegedly killed two women – his sister-in-law and his wife’s aunt, and injured their 94-year old grandmother on the shoulder.

“He was later attacked by members of the community who assaulted him to death. His private firearm went missing in the process and has not yet been recovered. It is believed to have been the weapon used to commit the crimes.”

Thateng allegedly murdered the two women accusing them of hiding his wife.
