QWAQWA – The community of Elite came alive with laughter, games, and joy during the two-day family fun day organized by a dedicated team of six community members on December 14 and 15. The event brought families together for activities that delighted both young and old.

One of those who took part in the festivities at Thandaza Msimang summed up the spirit of the occasion when she said, “The children’s joy is priceless. They couldn’t stop talking about how much fun they had during these two days. It’s heart-warming to see our community united through such an event.”

The event kicked off with a lively fun walk around the neighbourhood. To everyone’s amazement, Betty Dlamini outpaced all participants to secure first place, earning herself a well-deserved gold medal. She truly inspired everyone.

The organizers Thato Gwexela, Letlaka Mphuthi, Rorisang Molefe, Refilwe Matile, Tshepiso Twala, and Katleho Moekwa worked tirelessly to ensure the event’s success.

They collaborated with the local Department of Sports and Recreation, who not only brought their own equipment but also facilitated games and activities, much to the delight of the crowd.

According to Mphuthi, the highlight of the event was the sports tournaments, featuring exciting five-a-side soccer and netball games.

“There were also activities for children, including jumping castles, water slides, and swimming pools. The little ones couldn’t hide their excitement as they ran from one activity to another, finally rounding off their day with party packs filled with treats,” Mphuthi told this publication.

On behalf of the organizing team, Thato Gwexela expressed heartfelt gratitude to the community, “I would like to thank everyone for trusting us with your kids. We had a great time with both children and parents. Thank you for your support and patience. May God bless you all.”

The family fun day wasn’t just about games and fun it was a celebration of community spirit. For those two days, Elite residents were reminded of the joy of coming together, strengthening bonds, and creating cherished memories for their children.

“Such events remind us of the value of community, we hope this will become an annual tradition,” said parent and community member Dineo Mopeli.

The success of the family fun day was a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared vision of joy, togetherness, and fun for all.
