QWAQWA – Shock and horror gripped residents of Boiketlong Section, Mabolela Village, after the mutilated remains of a new-born baby were discovered in a donga on Wednesday, August 27.

According to police, a community member stumbled upon the lower half of the infant’s body and immediately alerted authorities. The upper half of the body has not been recovered.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring confirmed the gruesome discovery, saying investigations suggest the missing parts may have been mauled by stray dogs.

“The remains were discovered by a community member who alerted the police. It is suspected that the upper body may have been mauled by dogs,” Mophiring said.

A case of concealment of birth has been opened as police intensify investigations.

Authorities have appealed to the public for information that could help trace the mother or anyone connected to the incident.

Community members expressed shock and anger, describing the discovery as “deeply disturbing” and calling for justice for the infant.

Police have urged anyone with information to contact the Phuthaditjhaba Police Community Service Centre immediately.
