BLOEMFONTEIN-The Free State Legislature will on Friday, during a special sitting, appoint the new permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).

This, after the Freedom Front Plus Armand Cloete was sworn in as a Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) following the resignation of Devar Smith, who was the Freedom Front Plus representative.

Cloete, who previously occupied the NCOP position, was sworn in as a new MPL on 4 May by the Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Zanele Sifuba.

It has been reported that Sifuba has since publicly wished Cloete well with his new responsibilities and explained that the administration of an oath or solemn affirmation to a member, is part of the official process when taking public office, as provided for in the Constitution.

In the media briefing, Smith disclosed that he resigned from the Provincial Legislature due to personal circumstances but confirmed he remained active in the political sphere.
