QWAQWA – The Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality (MAP) has appointed Ntozelizwe Benjamin Mqenebe as the new acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its water board, MAPWater, as part of ongoing efforts to stabilise and strengthen water service delivery in the area.
In a media statement, the municipality said the appointment comes at a critical time as MAPWater works to address persistent water challenges affecting communities across Maluti-a-Phofung.
Mqenebe brings a wealth of experience in the water and engineering sectors. He is a professional mechanical and systems engineer with an extensive track record in both the public and private sectors.
His previous roles include senior positions at Umgeni Water in Durban, the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in Gqeberha, and ArcelorMittal South Africa in Newcastle.
Beyond these roles, Mqenebe has served as a consultant to the Free State provincial government, where he provided technical support on water-related matters to more than ten municipalities.
His expertise also extends beyond South Africa, having worked in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, as well as in Malaysia and Singapore.
Welcoming the appointment, MAP Municipal Manager Advocate Mzwakhe Mofokeng congratulated Mqenebe and expressed confidence in his leadership.
“I would like to once again welcome Mr Mqenebe to the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality and congratulate him on his appointment as the acting CEO of MAPWater,” Mofokeng said.
The municipality said Mqenebe’s strong technical background and broad industry experience are expected to add significant value to MAPWater’s operations as the entity continues its efforts to improve water service delivery in the municipality.
