Handing over vehicles to different departments Community Safety, Roads and Transport MEC Jabu Mbalula.

BLOEMFONTEIN — After years of frustration from communities across the Free State over sluggish service delivery blamed on resource shortages — a concern echoed by government employees themselves — Christmas has come early for Free Staters.

Several provincial government departments have received a major boost with the handover of a new vehicle fleet aimed at strengthening daily operations and improving service delivery to residents.

Free State MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport Jabu Mbalula officially handed over vehicles worth R29.99 million at the Government Garage in Bloemfontein on Monday, 15 December.

Mbalula said the investment reinforces the provincial government’s commitment to efficient, responsive and people-centred service delivery.

“This intervention is aimed at improving road safety, strengthening emergency response times and enhancing community-based services across the province,” he said.

“This investment reflects our determination to ensure safer roads, quicker emergency responses and improved support to our communities.”

Beneficiary departments include Traffic and Road Safety, Health — which received pathology and mortuary vans — and Social Development, all expected to see improved operational capacity
