QWAQWA – The State has asked for more time to finalise investigations in the rape and murder case against Piet Pitso of Monontsha Village, Khoseng section, citing pending DNA and postmortem results.

Pitso briefly appeared in a packed courtroom on Tuesday, 14 October, where residents, relatives, and supporters – some wearing political party colours – filled the public gallery.

The accused faces charges of murdering a 67-year old man and raping an 85-year old woman, who is believed to be the victim’s mother.

According to police reports, Pitso allegedly confronted the 67-year-old, fatally stabbing him multiple times with a sharp object before turning on the elderly woman and raping her.

In his previous appearance, Pitso – represented by Legal Aid – abandoned his right to apply for bail, choosing to remain in custody pending further investigation.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, the State told the court that laboratory results were still outstanding, and that the case could not proceed until they were received. The prosecutor requested a postponement to allow completion of the forensic analysis.

Outside court, members of the MAP16 Civic Movement were seen in large numbers, contrasting with Pitso’s last appearance when EFF supporters attended.

Both political groups have publicly condemned the crime, calling for a harsh sentence should the accused be found guilty.

The case has been remanded to 17 November 2025 for further hearing.
