QWAQWA – The formal bail application of alleged rapist and murderer Teboho Piet Pitso (38) took an unexpected turn at the Tseki Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 September, when he abandoned his bail application.

Pitso, from Monontsha Village, Khoseng Section, is accused of stabbing a 67-year-old man to death and raping an 85-year-old woman. This was his second appearance since his arrest.

Court proceedings were briefly interrupted when the interpreter had to assist Pitso due to his hearing impairment.

Unlike his first appearance, which drew angry crowds demanding that he be denied bail, only a handful of residents gathered outside court on Monday.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) welcomed the accused’s decision, calling for the harshest possible sentence if he is convicted.

EFF District Councillor Mohau Molwele told The Guard Newspaper that his party would continue to protest outside court until the case concludes.

“What happened to this family is horrific. Putting politics aside, we are calling on all leaders, community representatives, and the public to come in numbers to support the family,” Molwele said.

According to police, Pitso was allegedly caught breaking into the elderly woman’s house. She alerted her son for help, but when the 67-year-old confronted him, Pitso allegedly overpowered and fatally stabbed him multiple times with a sharp object before turning on the elderly woman and raping her.

Community members have expressed shock, anger, and fears for their safety, saying the incident has left them deeply unsettled.
