Rhino Park in Petrus Steyn to celebrate 200 years of Basotho nation

PETRUS STEYN- Languages forms an important part of heritage and culture. As Basotho nation celebrates its bicentenary in 2024, Elandskop Outdoor Museum is hosting a writing and editing workshops at Rhino Heritage Park, Mamafubedu.

The editing workshops will run from 02 November 2024 to January 2025.

“For years our languages has been suppressed” said Twin Mosia, Curator at Elandskop Outdoor Museum and Rhino Heritage Park, he adds that the workshop is important as it will make the Sesotho language more visible and represented digitally so.

Elandskop Outdoor Museum has always advocated and inspired others to explore their heritage and culture, fostering a true understanding of their origins. Mosia said they are working with Wikipedia that has served as a valuable resource where communities unite to write and edit stories they deem essential for our collective knowledge.

Twin Mosia who is currently on the Free State Provincial Heritage Resources Authority Council that is responsible for advising the Free State MEC of Arts, Arts, Culture and Recreation on the implimentation of the National Heritage Resources Authority, says this unique collaboration is not the first with Wikimedia South Africa as they hosted one in August where the focus where on South African Women in 2023.

Twin Mawela Mosia from Mamafubedu Petrus Steyn has been appointed as the Sesotho Language Champion by the chapter and is looking to forward to making sure Sesotho language is well represented on Wikipedia.
