Former MPAC chairperson dies

QWAQWA -Tributes have been pouring in for the late former law maker and chairperson of Maluti-a-Phofung local municipality Public Accounts Committee chairperson Tumelo Thulo who died at home on October 6 2024.

Thulo’s passing was confirmed by a member of his party, the African Content Movement’s secretary Mandla Holley who called it a great loss for his party.

“I stand here before you to report about the untimely passing of our committed servant by the name of Tumelo Thulo whom you all know that he once served as a councillor in the Maluti-a-Phofung local municipality. Last night around 10:30 hours I received a call about his passing on.

This morning we tried to communicate with the family to find out about the arrangements and the confirmation of sudden passing of Tumelo Thulo. All other details will be communicated maybe from tomorrow because we still have given them a chance to digest this sad news.” Holley described the passing of Thulo as a great loss for the party, especially as it prepares for the 2026 local government elections; he was expected to take part in campaigning and assisting in attracting youth to the party.

“It is a great loss for such a vibrant young person of the calibre of Thulo because we were still expecting a lot to come from him since we all know that we are looking forward to local government elections in 2026. We were expecting that he was going to play a major role in mobilising youth as he was a youth. I am at a loss for words,” Holley said.

Passing his condolences, Maluti-a-Phofung local municipality’s chief whip Moeketsi Lebesa said, Thulo has left an indelible mark on the municipality.“His untimely passing has sent shockwaves throughout the community. A young and promising leader, Tumelo’s potential was evident to all. His passion and talent shone bright, earning him recognition from CIAGOL president Lekula Sidwell Mofokeng, who had entrusted me in mentoring him during CIAGOL conference in Johannesburg.

Map16 Civic Movement ‘s Paratlang Motloung also expressed disappointment at the passing of former councillor Thulo. Motloung described Thulo as an energetic young man who was willing to learn.

“He already had his degree from University of Free State, unfortunately due to political dynamics he ended up finding himself out of the council of Maluti-a-Phofung. African Transformation Movement’s Nkareng Moloi described Thulo as a brave person who he remembered for his firm stand in disagreeing with Map 16 coalition government.Democratic Alliance Moses Lefuma who had worked with the deceased in the Mpac, said despite disagreements during deliberations Thulo showed potential of growth.

“We are saddened by his death especially at his age .” The cause of Thulo’s death is still unknown. The details of his memorial and funeral services are yet to be confirmed.
