QWAQWA – Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality (TMDM) alongside Youth in Action have recognized the individuals and organisations who have been doing remarkable work throughout the year in community development.

The TMDM council chamber was filled with a group of honoured guests who were dressed to the nines at the extraordinary people’s awards ceremony that was held on the 5th of December to honour and celebrate the work of those people and individuals who have done extraordinary things throughout the year.

The mayor’s excellence awards were structured in such a way that the community had to nominate the people and organisations that they felt deserved this kind of recognition and the executive mayor of TMDM Conny Msibi also identified key people who she gave the mayor’s special award.

Explaining the criteria used Msibi had this to say, “I identified the outstanding and different achievers in the community that is why I decided to give them this special award. For example, the young lady Tshepang who recently went to Russia. The music that this young lady is singing is unique if is different, that is why she is deserving of this special award,” Msibi said in an interview with The Guard.

The following recipients of the mayor’s special awards had this to say about receiving their certificates of recognition.
“Not everyone recognizes the work that we do so I am very happy to be recognized and supported by my community. Sometimes we are afraid to start and do what we feel we can do for the benefit of our community. I decided to open a creche because I saw the need in my community, I am very grateful for such an honour,” Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioner Motshidisi Lesesa from Letshalemaduke said.

Lefa Mphirime a young man in the performing arts said the following, “I feel very special for receiving this award because it shows that the district and the mayor and everybody recognizes the work that I am doing for my community. I have trained a lot of young people through the transfer of skills in acting and presenting.”
