QWAQWA – The family of the late Modiehi Khodumo-Mokoena, 65, in Riverside are still searching for answers after police  confirmed that her 30-year old son is the suspect in her murder case. Her body was found mutilated inside her garage on Tuesday, 7 June.

Family spokesperson, Mohlomi Khodumo said the family is still reeling in shock as they never thought her sister’s life could be taken in such a cruel manner by someone who is still at large.

“We are very saddened and shocked as we were still expecting her to guide, not only her children, but all of us as we navigate through life,” said Khodumo.

He said her sister’s son was a sober minded person who they thought was capable of such heinous a crime.

This incident has left many residents in Maluti-a-Phofung in shock as they call for the suspect to be arrested and face the full might of the law.

Rapholo Tsie of Riverside said justice should prevail as the suspect is dangerous  to them as the community “We are now feeling unsafe, we need justice for Mokoena’s murder,” said Tsie.

According to Police Spokesperson in the eastern Free State, Captain Phumelele Dlamini, the incident took place on Monday this week but came to the attention of the family on Tuesday.

“It is alleged that the husband of the deceased Mr Motsumi Joseph Mokoena arrived home and found his son in the garage stuffing the remains of his mother in a plastic bag.”

Dlamini said Mokoena got herself stabbed for questioning his son about what he was doing. “The son took out a knife and stabbed him in the chest; he is admitted in hospital with serious stab wounds.” Said Dlamini.

A murder case has been opened at Phuthaditjhaba police station. But the suspect is still at large and police have launched a manhunt to nab him.
