QWAQWA – Lesedi FM current affairs presenter and producer, Dimakatso Motsoeneng, has returned to her roots with a powerful gesture of generosity, donating school uniforms and shoes to 50 underprivileged learners at Diphakweng Primary School in Mangaung Village.
Motsoeneng, who hails from Qwaqwa and began her schooling at Diphakweng, said the initiative is her way of giving back and investing in the future of disadvantaged children.
“I know what it’s like to walk to school with broken shoes and an empty stomach,” she said. “I’ve seen how poverty can break a child’s spirit. That’s why I’m using part of my salary to help these kids stay in school and believe in their worth.”
Accompanied by her childhood friend and former classmate, Ishmael Selepe—now a successful security company owner in Gauteng—the duo made a surprise visit to the school, replacing worn-out shoes with brand new ones and handing over full school uniforms to pupils selected by the school’s management.
Motsoeneng stressed that primary school learners are especially vulnerable, and that being excluded due to poverty can cause lasting emotional damage. “We must support these children now, or we risk losing their potential forever,” she said.
The two also pledged to restore electricity to the school after power cables were allegedly stolen, a move welcomed by the community and school staff.
Acting principal Jabulile Mokoena expressed her deep gratitude: “Our school is in a deeply rural area, where jobs are scarce and families struggle to survive. Most of our learners live with grandparents or single parents. This act of kindness has not only lifted their spirits, but restored hope.”
Motsoeneng vowed to continue supporting the learners through financial assistance and other essential needs. “Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders,” she said. “We cannot let poverty rob them of a future.”
