QWAQWA – The Engen fuel station in QwaQwa was hit by a group of armed robbers in the early hours of Friday morning, 11 April.

What began as a normal night shift for the fuel station staff, working under the watch of security guards, quickly turned into a terrifying ordeal when a group of armed men arrived at the premises.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring confirmed that police are searching for the suspects and that a case of business robbery is under investigation.

According to Mophiring, preliminary reports indicate that around ten armed men stormed the garage, held both the security guards and staff at gunpoint, and locked them up before helping themselves to an undisclosed amount of cash and the workers’ cellphones.

“No one was injured during the robbery, and all staff members are in a stable condition,” said Mophiring.

Reports further suggest that the suspects took all the cash from the tills before attempting to force open a large money safe in the office area of the business. Police investigations continue.
