QWAQWA – The police have confirmed that they recovered a body of an eight-year boy, Rapelang Mabote of Namahadi from Kgoptjane river on Sunday 02 November.

Mabote wa last seen at the river with his friend swimming. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring Rapelang was identified by his family.

Mophiring urged parents and community members to closely supervise children when they swim in local rivers, whether in villages or outside towns.

“The life of every child is precious we urge community members to take responsibility by discouraging and stopping children from swimming in rivers, dams, and disused quarry waters. Many children cannot swim, and strong water currents often lead to tragic outcomes, “Mophiring said.

The police have registered an Inquest for further investigation. The search was conducted by members of the Phuthaditjhaba Search and Rescue Team — Sergeant M.I. Mabe, together with Maluti-a-Phofung divers M.C. Khubheka and M.N. Matate.
