QWAQWA – The newly elected municipality manager of Maluti-A-Phofung local municipality Motsoahae Mzwakhe Mofokeng has promised to hit the ground running in his quest to make the municipality’s water and electricity crisis a thing of the past.

Mofokeng said this during his first meeting with different media houses in the local municipality.

“There is a lot of funds previously invested into water supply but residents still have no water in their taps. I am going to treat this matter as my priority. Water is life, and people cannot live without water.”

Even though he admitted that the problems in Maluti-A-phofung are mainly systemic, Mofokeng said with experienced and skilled employees some of the problems can be addressed.

“I am only one month here so I am still observing and familiarising myself with everything; things will turn around. We need people with the right experience and skills. We cannot expect someone who has no experience in water affairs to lead Mapwater and expect to see good results.”

Mofokeng emphasized that he is a results-driven leader.

“During my interview for this job, I promised to fix the poor Mampoi Road. That is the first thing I did after my appointment. Without using any municipality funds we managed to fix that road using available resources. I approached business people within the municipality to assist and it was fixed without any expenses.”
