QWAQWA – The executive mayor of Maluti-a-Phofung local municipality Masetjhaba Lakaje-Mosia tabled the 2024/2025 budget on Tuesday, which saw her outlining plans to accelerate service delivery.
Lakaje-Mosia highlighted the signing of the Distribution Agency Agreement as one of the milestones that will see more than 163,000 meters being connected for electricity.
She said as part of this agreement residents will not only benefit from employment but there will also be skills development.
“Municipal workers will be trained through Eskom’s skill development programme to build capacity for reliable provision and maintenance of electricity.”
In terms of water challenges, the mayor said the minister of water and sanitation has been deploying deputy minister David Mahlobo in the municipality to ensure the process of restoring water supply is followed to the latter.
“R1.7 billion has been channeled towards addressing water challenges in Maluti-a-Phofung local municipality. R47 million has been redirected towards upgrading the Fika Patso treatment plant and work is expected to be completed this month. This is very important as Fika Patso supplies most of the areas of Qwaqwa. Over R400 Million has been allocated for water treatment plant upgrades and sewer systems improvements.”

For the road infrastructure she said the project worth R230 million which will create jobs in the following primary roads in Maluti-a-Phofung.
“Setsing-Monontsha border will create 268 job opportunities in Matebeleng; 112 in Makgalaneng; 187 in Bolata-Elizabeth Ross; 330 in Thiboloha-Maluti bus service via Tseki; from Riverside-Namahadi, Makong village and Lusaka Qholaqhwe there will be 118,21 and 87 job opportunities respectively.”
