QWAQWA –Thabo Mofutsanyana district director Lindiwe Mabaso announced Selelekela high school as the best performing school in the district at a ceremony held at Mookodi high school on March 19.

“Selelekela is the pride of the district, and it is the best performing school which has produced one of the top learners in the country who is the top learner in the province. We are proud of the performance of our schools in the Thabo Mofutanyana Education district,” Mabaso said when addressing the hall that was fully packed.

Maluti-A-Phofung (MAP) local municipality tops all the other local municipalities of the Thabo Mofutsanyana Education District (TMED) when it comes to academic performance and excellence, with Selelekela being the best performing school in the district.

In his keynote address, Free State MEC of Education Makalo Mohale congratulated everyone who contributed to the success of making Thabo Mofutsanyana the top performing district in the province.
“I’d like to congratulate everyone who played a role in making sure that Thabo Mofutsanyana Education District achieves this level of excellence, and it goes without saying that it took a team effort to achieve such success,” Mohale said.

MAP was announced as the best performing local municipality with Circuit 10 – under the slogan ‘a circuit on the move’ – being named the best performing circuit. Selelekela was number one in this circuit followed by Thiboloha School for the Deaf and Blind and Moteka secondary school with 100 percent pass rates.

The district also had four schools that were in the provincial top 10, which are The Beacon secondary school, Rantsane secondary school, Lekgulo secondary school as well as Reahola secondary school.
Many more awards were announced and the school hall that was packed with school principals and teachers expressed great excitement and jubilation during the award ceremony.

In closing, TMDM executive mayor Conny Msibi said this was a very fun and exciting day for her and with all the uncontrollable excitement that was expressed by all the educators, it goes to show the kind of patience and care the teachers have for their learners because even adults can sometimes be taken over by uncontrollable excitement.

“Looking at this team of educators gathered here and thinking of what effort they are putting into making South Africa a better place, it prompts one to say these people are going the extra mile. I see men and women who, despite all adds, do their best.
“In life it is good to do good and if you do not go the extra mile, you will not achieve anything in life. To all the parents whose children performed well, I’d also like to say well done,” Msibi said.

Among distinguished guests were several stakeholders that contributed to some of the awards and gifts as well as MAP executive mayor Masetjhaba Lakaje-Mosia and many other department of education dignitaries.
