QWAQWA – Free State Premier Dukwana has urged residents of Qwaqwa to play their part to bring the area to its former glory and leave a legacy for their children.
Dukwana said this when addressing the audience at Phuthaditjhaba multipurpose hall on Wednesday January 31 2024 during the unveiling of infrastructure projects.

“We are here to live up to our promise that we will come back and develop this area. This area is among area those we have chosen to make our priority. We cannot leave poverty and problems for our kids. Together we will build this area. We have energy, all of us, and we must use it productively,” said Dukwana.

He said to start the journey of rebuilding Qwaqwa, community members must start investing in agriculture.

“In Free State we have many schools and the food that they eat must come from here. We cannot be a community that does not know how to produce its own food. We must encourage our farmers to feed our schools and hospitals. It must be food that we have planted that feeds our children. We cannot encourage you to plant food yet, you do not know where to sell. We will be your market.”

While congratulating Maluti-a-Phofung learners for raising the Free State flag high at national, Dukwana promised to invest in the education.

“We are happy to be number one and in the province a learner from Selelekela Qwaqwa is our number one. We will come back with more focus on education in a few weeks’ time to thank and turn around our schools’ situation.”

The Premier also announced plans to establish robotic schools.

“We cannot be proud of becoming number in education yet after our children have completed studies they have nowhere to go. We are saying we have already engaged with other people to come here and build robotics schools so that they can benefit from jobs created here. We have already approached many Sitta’s.”
