Maluti TVET celebrates Artisan Month.

QWAQWA –Maluti TVET College Kwetlisong campus celebrated Artisan Month by opening its doors to learners from different schools in the Thabo Mofutsanyana district municipality (TMDM), who come to find information on skills programmes that the college offers.
August is Artisan Month for TVET colleges across the country and Maluti TVET college is no exception.

According to acting campus manager, Sentroy Mosalla, the courses that are offered at this campus range from welding, boiler making, robotics, motor mechanic, panel beating, brick laying. During Artisan Month learners get to come to their campus and get exposure to these courses.

“Young people need to realize that skills programmes open more doors for them because they enable them to walk away with a learned skill that they can use to create their own employment instead of just waiting to be employed,” Mosalla said.
Sofia Mbembe from Molapo Secondary School in Qwaqwa said she wants to be a teacher or a social worker but after being exposed to some of the programmes at Maluti TVET, her mind has been opened to a world of possibilities.

“After listening to the session on civil engineering I became curious to find out more about the skills programmes here at Kwetlisong. Being here today is an eye opener opening for me,” Mbembe said.
Tieho Mabe from the same school echoed the same sentiments when he said that he has learned a lot from being here, and appreciates this opportunity.

Speaking to The Guard, building and civil construction facilitator Thabiso Lethebe said it was wonderful to have an interactive group such as the learners from Molapo Secondary School and as an educator he felt compelled to share as much as he could with them about the building and civil construction programme.

“Skills programmes give learners the opportunity to acquire a skill that they can use to make a living for themselves. As one of the qualified bricklaying professionals in the province I am very passionate about the building industry and made it my duty to share all the knowledge that I have with the learners so they can make informed decisions about their future careers,” Lethebe said.

Grade 10 and 11 learners from Ikaheng Zakheni Secondary School also came all the way from Petrus Steyn to learn about the skills programmes offered at Kweltisong.
