Mahasa tables budget in Phuthaditjhaba

QWAQWA – Sports, Acts, Culture and Recreation MEC Limakatso Mahasa says the department managed to achieve on 88 percent of its planned targets.
Mahasa said this when tabling the department’s budget for financial year 2023/2024 at Phuthaditjhaba Multi-purpose hall.

“This means that the programmes that we had planned and committed to implement as per our Annual Performance Plan and the Strategic Plan were implemented in their majority.”

However, she acknowledged that there were some challenges relating to the non-implementation or deferment of other programmes which will be addressed as a matter of urgency to ensure 100 per cent implementation of their programmes.

“The return of mass participation programmes was demonstrated by the implementation of the flagship programme of the Free State Provincial Government which is the Mangaung African Cultural Festival (MACUFE) in 2022.

“Notwithstanding the challenges in the environment, the return of MACUFE was a welcome relief for cultural activists whose livelihood was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the two-year period of its non-implementation.”

Mahasa announced a total budget allocation of R633,328,000 which represents a decrease of about 4% compared to the 2022/2023 allocation of R665,733,000.
