QWAQWA – The newly appointed chairperson of the Maluti-a-Phofung local municipality water entity, Elijah Segaza, has promised to hit the ground running in his quest to see Map water delivering on its mandate.

“As the chairperson of the new interim board, we hope to achieve the desired results while working closely with the municipality,” Segaza said.

The other four members of the Interim board who were introduced are Willie Lefora, Jabu Mokale, Godfrey Katsane and Tebello Mosala. The latter is the only female.

When unveiling the new interim board of directors for Map water, the executive mayor of Maluti-a-Phofung local municipality Gilbert Mokotso said the board should achieve its mandate within a year.

“We are introducing the new interim board directors who were elected by the municipal council and they will be tasked with the following terms of reference: to bring stability to Map water working closely with the municipality to achieve successful results; advertising these positions so that qualified board members can apply and assume a permanent role as Map water’s board of directors who will receive a five-year contractual agreement.”
Prior to the announcement, Mokotso gave a brief history of the entity’s former glory days.

“Since its inception in 2001 Map water used to have a clean audit and we used to pride ourselves with a blue drop and green drop status that was one of the best in the country. Map water hasn’t had a board of directors since 2015 and things have since deteriorated, and it is high time we changed things around,” Mokotso said.

He added that the new interim board will work closely with the MMC of infrastructure Shashapa Motaung and MMC of finance Azael Nhlapo as the councillors who will be leading the technical team from the municipality that is tasked with making sure that Map water reverts to a more stable entity.
