Map schools dominate contest

Tabola Primary School of QwaQwa walked away as heroes at the Baswa le Meetse (BLM) District competitions held in Makabelane Technical School.
Baswa le Meetse, “youth in water” is a competition aimed at learners in intermediate phase. Learners showcase their skills in water and sanitation with focus on water conservation health and hygiene, good practice using arts as a medium to convey the message.


According to the department of water sanitation’s communication specialist Marcus Monyakeni, learners from Tabola Primary School in Qwa-Qwa could not contain their excitement as they jumped screamed and punched in the air with tears of joy in their eyes. After the announcement that their school came on top in Music and Poster categories.
“These were tears of joy and appreciation of hard work and dedication I and learners showed and sacrificed their time working tirelessly. Since the school participate in the competitions like these, we hope to make a difference in significantly reducing water wastage in QwaQwa,” said Mr Samson Makae” the winning educator.


Other schools who performed above their expectations are Teboho Primary School who scooped position one in Drama followed by Letsha Le Maduke Primary School in Poetry. The winners booked themselves tickets to represent Thabo Mofutsanyane District at the upcoming Provincial Baswa le Meetse Competitions to be held in Bloemfontein.


Monyakeni says the winners of the provincial Baswa le Meetse Competitions scooped R10 000, while the runnners up and position three contestants bagged R8,000 and R6,000 respectively. Winners at National level will get R20 000; the runners up R15.000 and position three R10,000.
The competitions start at District level and winners proceeds to Provincial then adjudicated by the Department of Sports Arts and Recreation. They Select the finest amongst the best to represent Free State Province at the National competitions that will be held later this year in Gauteng at Birchwood Hotel.
