QWAQWA – Executive Mayor Gilbert Mokotso of Maluti-a-Phofung local municipality has warned the municipal staff to pull up their socks and work towards a collaborative effort in the quest to reverse current state, or face dire consequences.

MAP staff gathered at the Phuthadithjaba Multi-Purpose hall on Monday  this week to hear what mayor Mokotso had to say to them.

Opening the meeting was Pastor Modulathoko Montso who stated that MAP’s municipality is in ‘ICU’ and that it is going to take everyone’s concerted efforts to get the municipality out.

“As the mayor of MAP I’d like to say that senior management staff and I cannot fix all of MAP’s problems on our own, we need the collaboration and support of all staff members. Part of good leadership is being able to lead by example,” Mokotso said.

He also urged management teams to observe proper protocol when it comes to work ethics and procedures; and adhere to a meticulous dress code that inspires dignity and respect.

At the same occasion, the MMC of Infrastructure Shashapa Motaung regretted that in a municipality that employs 1,400 staff members, 1,100 working for MAP and the other 300 working for MAP Water, not even half of them were present at the meeting. This, he pointed out, further underlines the fact that there is a serious problem in the municipality of MAP.

For his part, MAP’ s council speaker Paratlane Motloung said: “I’m very particular about time. Punctuality is very important to me and the mayor; it is a sign of self-respect and respecting the other person. Staff must come to work on time and do their work.”

He further stated that being on time would be a step in the right direction because when the community goes to the municipality for assistance, they will be met with staff that is ready to serve them because they recognize their collective responsibility.
