QWAQWA- The Executive Mayor of Maluti a Phofung local municipality Masetjhaba Lakaje Mosia has urged municipal employees and residents to value and protect the newly purchased fleet, aimed at accelerating service delivery.

Lakaje Mosia who was in the company of members of her mayoral committee and Municipal Manager Tseko Futhuli Mothamaha said this while unveiling a fleet comprising two Graders, one Bombag, and one TLB last Friday.

“This is a step in the right direction towards addressing issues pertaining to service delivery. This is the first batch of vehicles purchased; we are still expecting seven more to be delivered next month. Our aim is to cut costs and stop using hired vehicles,” disclosed Lakaje Mosia during the unveiling event last Friday.

The Municipal Manager Tseko Futhuli Mothamaha who had also attended the unveiling ceremony echoed the Mayor’s sentiments, “no middleman was used during the purchase of the fleet, therefore there are no extra costs incurred.”

Unveiling new fleet Executive Mayor of Maluti A Phofung Masetjhaba Lakaje Mosia, Municipal Manager Tseko Futhuli Mothamaha and Chief whip Betsi Mofokeng.

According to the Mayor, the vehicles are going to be deployed across different departments such as collection and refuse removal and electricity department.

The purchase of the fleet came at a time when the residents such as Elite and Debult have started patching up their roads and even cleaning their area.

In an interview with The Guard earlier the Deputy Chairperson of residents group Sempe Sempe said:

“We grew tired of reporting to the municipality about poor service delivery here. So, we decided to take the bull by its horns. We have come here with our gardeners so they too can learn not to dump rubbish everywhere. We are taking control of our suburb.”

Meanwhile in the other suburb of Debult, residents are doing the same.

They have formed a similar group and raise money towards procurement of both road maintenance equipment and street lights.

They clean their suburb every Saturday and haul the garbage with their own vehicles to the dumping site.
