POLICE STEP IN TO ADDRESS BULLYING IN SCHOOLS

QWAQWA-The covid-19 pandemic has added more to the already existing  challenges in schools such as bullying and substance abuse, a need that prompted  Phuthaditjhaba police station to  step in to quell the  problem.

The Commander of Phuthaditjhaba police station, Brigadier Moses Mohloare together with social crime prevention team led by Lieutenant Colonel  Mambidi Nkhatho visited Sephokong Primary School to address bullying and substance abuse with the understanding if informed at a younger age , they will grow knowing how bad  bullying and substance abuse are .

“Leaners are lured to dagga at schools at a young age and this could get them into trouble and end up ruining their lives. Prevention is better cure; it is therefore  prudent that we decided to take awareness on bullying and substance abuse to the school .Bullying is very problematic  as learners  threaten others by taking their money or books. These are some of the reasons police come to schools to prevent these crimes at an early stage. Together with teachers we can prevent this through awareness,” said Mohloare.

Meanwhile the police also handed over lunch boxes, rulers, pencil cases , magazines and books as part of police’s support and contribution towards education of children.

In appreciation the Principal of Sephokong Primary school, Matshediso Moletsane thanked the police on behalf of the school.

“A need for lunch boxes is a priority at school .The gift comes handy  at the time of  need because some learners do not have lunch boxes and this becomes a problem as our school provides meals daily.”

Learners were very excited after receiving the gifts as well as the empowering awareness message.
